Carolyn Savage and Her Doctor to Discuss Her Heartbreaking "Inconceivable" Pregnancy and Her Miracle Twins

Carolyn Savage was the victim of a medical error which resulted in her becoming pregnant with another couple's embryo. After giving birth to a healthy baby boy, Carolyn and her husband Sean relinquished custody of the baby to his genetic parents in 2009. The Savages sought the help of Dr. Geoffrey Sher to help them realize their dream of another child; the Savages' gestational carrier (surrogate) is now 21 weeks pregnant with the Savages' twins.

In early 2009 the Savages went to their fertility clinic and tried for a pregnancy with their last remaining frozen embryos from a previous IVF cycle. On the day that Carolyn and Sean Savage found out that she was pregnant, they were hit with the bad news: the baby was not theirs. The IVF clinic lab made an egregious error and Carolyn was given the frozen embryos of another couple. Presented with the option to terminate the pregnancy, the Savages chose to keep the pregnancy and carry the baby to term. The pregnancy was not without complication, but Carolyn safely delivered Logan Savage Morrell via c-section in September of 2009. The Morrells took immediate custody of their baby and Carolyn and Sean went home empty-handed.

The story continued as Carolyn and Sean refused to give up the idea of having their own child. The couple engaged Dr. Geoffrey Sher of the Sher Institutes of Reproductive Medicine (SIRM) as their reproductive endocrinologist to continue to try to have another child. In a blog post about his role, Dr. Sher stated, "The fact that Carolyn and Sean had faith in our clinic and chose me as the doctor they trusted after their terrible experience was a great privilege.
