Hi, I have offered to be a GS (think thats right !) for very close friends of ours who have lost one baby at 21 wks and have been trying through ivf for 4 1/2 yrs with no success. Does anyone know if we need to get legal help beforehand or can we go ahead with the clinic and apply for a parental order (  IF qualifies ) does that mean IM has to adopt the baby? Also any advice on going through this would be appreciated,I have 2 children of my own 15 mths and 2 1/2 ,how do you explain to them what is happening?  I could go on all night so many questions and thoughts!  Also clinic have said we have to wait 6 mnths for quarantine of the sperm is that normal and why ?

Thanks X

First of all I'd like to say what a great thing you are doing for you friends! I wish you all the best of luck and look forward to following your journey.

Are your friends in the UK as well? In the US I believe you do not have to have a lawyer or a contract, but some REs will require that you have a contract I believe. If you already have a clinic, I would ask them if they require a contract. I'm also new at this, so I don't have an experience to share with you as I'm still asking questions as well. There are some experienced surros who are members that I'm sure should be able to help answer your questions.

I'm not sure why you'd have to wait 6 months on the sperm?? I've never heard of that, but I am new.. maybe you could ask the RE (Dr. Saleh) on the boards and he could help answer why?

I just want to wish you and your friends the best of luck!

Live your life to the fullest!

Hello! This is new to me as well. I am an IM in the US. Sorry I can't help with the UK laws, but I just wanted to say hello and I hope that you find the answers to your questions and that all goes well in your journey. I too look forward to hearing more about your journey.

Take care
