Hey everyone... if you want to be a surrogate and you aren't sure how long it takes Depo to get out of your system, it is 200 days, no matter how long you've been using the shot. I hope this helps Maggie |

This may sound like a dumb question, but what is the Depo shot? Is this something that all surrogates need? It sure stays in the system a long time. Any side effects? (I'm an IM so I assume I won't need this) |

The "Depo shot" is Depo Provera, a birth control shot, that has nothing to do with surrogacy. However, when you are using it, or have used it, you have to wait quite some time before you can become a surrogate because people want to make sure it is not in your system and make sure you can become pregnant. A lot of agencies will say you have to wait a full year after your last shot, but I have seen an agency or two that said 6 months. I tried to become a surrogate about a year ago and this was one of the things that held me up. I understand why they want a surrogate to wait a full year. I am a Pharmacy Technician and I have all the drug information available to me in the world, haha. My source for the Depo info was Clinical Pharmacology- Medroxyprogesterone- Pharmacokinetics. I hope this helps! Maggie
